I thought I’d write it with all those zeros. It seems so large. I know the word “million” should carry the same weight, but it doesn’t.
Over 500 victims in the Los Angeles area will receive money from the church to “make up” for years of abuse and molestation. I have found no mention of how many abusers there were.
Cardinal Roger Mahoney has made statements that he wish he could give these people their innocence back and has apologized to anybody who has been offended. Innocence? While that’s a start, I don’t believe anybody really needs their innocence back. They need the ability to deal with it. To have a relationship. To properly acknowledge leaders. To trust. All that was taken with their innocence. I suppose that if they could get their innocence back, then all that would fall into place. We would be taking a “Back to the Future” approach to what really needs to happen.
Is there a secret amongst Catholic clergy? How many issues like this have been brought up over the last 10 years? How many were hidden and buried? How long has this been going on and people are just starting care? Since the middle ages? Since the Catholic church tortured scientists for believing the Earth is not the center of the universe?
It’s time for the Pope to declare something different than they are the only true Christians. He needs to declare his priests the right to marry and have sex.
