Bush and Grammar

I am often offended by how people butcher the English language.  One of the few things that truly do offend me in this world is people’s disinterest in understanding the language.  When people are disinterested, they present themselves as something less than intelligent.  Many, as they scramble words and invent new ones, argue that their point gets across, so who cares?

Case in point:  The President of the United States.  People who defend him constantly tell me that he is smarter than he sounds.  He has to be!  And often, these are the same people who think that English should be the official language of the United States.  Maybe the standard should be set by Bush himself?

I am sure that everybody has heard Bush the other day as he was doing a little made for television even about his education bill.  No Child Left Behind is a piece of crap legislation, but Bush only proves it by saying the following over the years.

Is our children learning?

Way to conjugate the verbs, dingbat.  Now how will you answer your question years later?  Can you sound as if you do not understand the language even more?

As yesterday’s positive report card shows, childrens do learn when standards are high and results are measured

Back to fourth grade for you, and this time no buying your grades with extra milk money that you paid somebody to steal from the little students.

I am not endorsing anybody, but when I hear Obama speak, I am so impressed with the fact that an presidential candidate has such a firm grasp of the English language.  He speaks well and doesn’t sound like a blithering fool.  What high standards we have set for the office.

I know years back that there was a poll, and Bush was selected as the one with whom they would most like to sit down and have a beer.  Fine.  Sign him up for Secretary of Sitting at the Bar.  He may actually impress people with his incredible grasp of the English language after people have had around 12 beers.

This is much deeper to me than the irony of making a grammatical blunder while trying to get an education bill renewed.  This is a representation of the President and the United States.  I am amazed that does not bother more people.  He makes us all look like morons, and I am not real thrilled with that idea.
