Presidents and Faith

I get sick of this. Information that I don’t want to know.
Faith ‘plays every role’ in Obama’s life.
And none in mine. Does that make him better than me somehow?
Just a couple days ago I was impressed with the fact that Obama is no longer wearing his American Flag lapel pin that has been so fashionable since the 9/11 attacks. Yes, he’s taking a stand and it had to happen. How long was this symbol going to be required by each and every politician in order to be taken seriously?
Now I have to know about his religious affiliations. I don’t want to know. I don’t care.
I know that if a person does not have religious ties that votes will disappear.
John McCain disappointed me greatly a week ago in an interview.
I just have to say in all candor that since this nation was founded primarily on Christian principles … personally, I prefer someone who I know who has a solid grounding in my faith, but that doesn’t mean that I’m sure that someone who is Muslim would not make a good president.
He backtracked a little later saying that he would vote for a Muslim if that person were the best qualified for the job.
The point is that religion is a qualification and it should not be. It’s a qualification like stance on abortion, the death penalty, taxes, or the war in Iraq.
Candidates should stick to the issues that actually are qualifications.
I am not sure Americans are ready to think for themselves.
