Daughtry Thanks God
“I’d like to personally thank God for giving us the gift and the opportunity to share our music with the world,” said Daughtry after winning the Breakthrough Artist award on the AMA.
At least he thanked the fans first. Realizing that it doesn’t matter how much of a gift he has unless people are dumb enough to purchase his nonsense is a good move.
Of course he should thank all the random luck over the years that has afforded him the opportunity over every other act in the world that may be more talented.
The Rascal Flatts thanked their god as well, but not the fans. I won’t speak of the Rascal Flatts anymore. They are country and I don’t know a goddamn thing about country music artists.
Neither should think that they “god-given” abilities are the reason they are performing and selling millions of records. It’s meeting the right people. It’s performing on American Idol. It’s getting the opportunity to reach millions without any real right to.
I can guarantee you that there are hundreds of very good singers and writers and artists without recording contracts. Daughtry was one just a few short years ago. Oh the stories of him and his wife and his kids holding on to every note he sang and all the pomp and circumstance that surrounded the events that season. Good thing god had his hand on Daughtry guiding him every step of the way.
Daughtry should take some credit. He got himself noticed by the judges and worked his way onto the new Gong Show. He lasted long enough that all he had to do was make an album and millions of zombie music listeners would flock to purchase the CD.
Quite honestly, if Daughtry’s god handcrafted him as the music to make millions, then it is all the more reason that I cannot believe.

You have all the right in the world to not like his music, just like I have all the right in the world to do so. I am not a fan of American Idol, but I am a rocker, an old one at that. And I like Daughtry, so sue me. It has nothing to do with God, idiot. It has to do with good pipes and talent.
I have a right to not like his music and I decided to exercise that right on my blog.
The point of the article, Dwayne, was to point out that it took him years to find success and he had to run it through a gimmick like American Idol. If all it truly has to do with “good pipes and talent” then he should have been a household name a long time ago.
The point of the article was that he should take credit for what he did. All he had to do was muddle through with thousands of other contestants and get noticed nationally.
I won’t sue you and I didn’t bother to insult you either.
No idea who Daughtry is. But, American Idol? You need say no more about how good his music is, unless the US programme is an order of magnitude better than the UK version.
Nothing puts me off anyone in any award-winning job or sport more than the god-thanking bit. It manages to combine stupidity and arrogance at the same time.
They are basically saying “My momentary joy at getting this award is worth so much to my God that he will actually intervene to make all the other contenders lose.”
And still believe they are appearing to be sooo humble.
